WELCOME TO THE TERRACE COCKTAIL BAR

Thank you for taking the time to look at my area of speciality – The Bars! As the person responsible for the smooth operation of the bars at Kitley House I would just like to give you a little taste of what you can expect and answer a few of your (very!) frequently asked questions.

Why Bars when all I can see is the Terrace Bar?

Surprisingly enough during the course of the year we will operate bars for customers in all of the public rooms as well as the gardens when we have marquees. There is a small charge for staffing of additional bars and where required the provision of draft beers.

So what time can I drink too?

Our license allows the service of alcoholic beverages from 10am (mmm….) until 2am. In reality the bar closes when the customers stop drinking with the 2am as a latest time that drinks can be legally served. Full details of our licensing are available at Reception and in the Bar.

What age can a young person be served with a drink?

The law is very specific and that is 18 years. In practical terms and to ensure that this is complied with my staff and I will only serve customers who look over 21years. For those of a youthful disposition and over 18 please bring identification with you.

What age can a young person consume alcohol purchased by an adult?

Only young people aged over 16 years can consume wine, beer and cider whilst dining and as part of the meal. In practical terms this is quite clear and the staff operate to these standards. For the avoidance of doubt we cannot permit people under 18 to consume alcohol on any terms other than these. The Licensing Laws now leave no room for either Licensees or Parents to serve or allow to be served alcohol on licensed premises other than on these terms.

The Wine List – can I have some help choosing my wine?

The short answer is yes. The staff attend regular wine tastings at the hotel to keep their knowledge up however it is an extensive wine list. If you are choosing wine for a function in advance do contact me either for advice or even, if time permits, a tasting of your own!

Corkage – Can I bring my own wine and pay a corkage charge?

Regrettably we do not operate this policy.

Cocktails – can I have some help with selecting a cocktail for my party?

Oh Yes! We love Cocktails and would be happy to devise a specific cocktail for your party that either meets your colour scheme or features your favourite spirits! Non Alcoholics are also welcome!

Smoking – what will be our policy?

Along with the rest of England the law changes later this year. From that point we will become a non-smoking establishment. Our specific procedures will be laid out in advance however the Terrace just alongside the bar would seem to be accessible for smokers given current guidance.

If you have any further specific questions please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail below.
