UK FOOD HEROES COMES TO KITLEY!

The award winning Kitley House Hotel has yet another claim to fame – appearing on ‘Local Food Heroes’ series which launched recently on UKTV Food, hosted by celebrity chef’s Gary Rhodes, Rosemary Shrager (Ladette to Lady fame) and Oliver Rowe (The Urban Chef).

A special kitchen set was built in the hotel’s beautiful orangerie which made a spectacular setting for the programme as it showcased some of the best local produce from around the UK. 

Owner/Manager of the Kitley House Hotel, Andrew Huckerby said “The programme producers are a local company called Denham Productions, who know the hotel well and appreciate our commitment to using local produce.  This is evidenced by our winning awards for best use of local produce from Taste of the West and also being recognised as providing the best breakfast in the south west!

It was fabulous to be part of something which celebrates local food producers from all over the UK: the Local Food Heroes regional finalists came from 10 regions across the country including Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It provided an extremely exciting event for the hotel, which we hope comes across on screen.

To be at the centre of such important programme making was a bit disruptive for the hotel, but worth it not only for raising our own profile, but in encouraging more people to seek out and appreciate local produce”

Kitley House Hotel in the South Hams, and one of Plymouth’s favourite hotels, is blessed with some wonderful local suppliers and was an early convert to using local produce before it became such a popular topic.

Grace Kitto of Denham Productions said “We were looking for a location which struck the right chord, it had to look right for our filming, but also had to have genuine credentials.  So it was fantastic for us that one of our favourite hotels, close to our studio’s and edit suites, is already nationally recognised for using local produce.

The set looked stunning and our celebrity chefs were very impressed with the location – and they are tough judges!  We hope the programme will encourage everyone who sees it to not only use more local produce, but to seek out the attractions of the South Hams as well.”
